ABS engineering plastic, also known as PC+ABS (engineering plastic alloy), is called plastic alloy in Chinese in the chemical industry. It is named PC+ABS because this material not only has the excellent heat and weather resistance, dimensional stability, and impact resistance of PC resin, but also has the excellent processing flowability of ABS resin. At the same time, it has excellent impact strength, electrical performance, wear resistance, chemical resistance, dyeing properties, as well as good molding and mechanical processing.
This is the most common laptop shell material, and most models on the market currently use this material to some extent. It is understood that more than 70% of laptops priced below 8000 yuan are mainly made of ABS engineering plastic. For example, the ThinkPad E40 series, Acer 4741G series, and so on all use this material, and there are countless examples.
The biggest drawbacks of ABS engineering plastics are their heavy weight and poor thermal conductivity. However, due to their low cost, they are still widely used by most manufacturers. Most of the colorful laptop models on the market are made of ABS engineering plastics.
Due to the fact that the outer shell of a laptop is the most intuitive and visible, it also represents the "face" of the laptop. In addition to the surface pattern design, we also need to consider the material of the outer shell. All materials that can be used on the outer shell of a laptop can be roughly divided into metal materials and composite materials. Among them, laptops made of metal materials are slightly heavier in terms of weight, so their molds usually need to be particularly careful when making them. They are usually used on high-end computer bodies. Common metal materials include magnesium aluminum alloy materials, titanium alloy materials, etc., while common composite materials mainly refer to plastic materials, including carbon fiber, ABS engineering plastics, polycarbonate PC (rarely seen), etc. Laptops made of these materials have a lighter weight and are malleable. Due to its strong sexual characteristics, it is widely distributed in most laptop markets, which can be understood as the "universal oil" of laptop casings, almost ranging from portable entry-level to high-end.
